What about Bob? Empty What about Bob?

    Post by Tom.Liles 2010-03-23, 14:46

The events of the last session leave an issue that needs to be resolved during the next one. Builder, Bob's character, died during the final fight. The difficulty that arises was that Builder knew exactly where the box was hidden and his mechanical mind could recall this fact with perfect accuracy. Without Builder's help, finding the box will be difficult.

Ultimately, this is Bob's decision--it's his character, after all. Still, it's a big issue and I wanted to create a thread where people could weigh in on the topic. I also want to know in which direction we're heading before next week's session so that I can prepare adequately.

Here's a few ways in which we can proceed:

    1) Raise Builder. Given his mutilation at the end of last session, this is going to be difficult, but with the right ritual it can be done. From the DM's perspective, this is the least appealing solution because I don't want to cheapen builder's death and mutilation by making it easily recovered from, but I also don't want to spend the time dealing with making Builder's resurrection sufficiently difficult. Despite these feelings, it's a viable option.

    2) Speak with Dead. Instead of getting Builder raised, the knowledge Builder has can be gleaned through careful use of a Speak with Dead ritual, a relatively low-level ritual costing 500 gp. having only Builder's head is sufficient and will allow the campaign to proceed with a new character.

    3) Attach Builder's Head to another Warforged. You can try this, but Warforged might not work the way you think...

As far as replacements for Bob's character goes, that is again Bob's executive decision. My recommendation, if he wants to play the same kind of character, is to try a Bard of some kind and reflavor him as an artificer. Bards are more straightforward, better tricksters, and better healer than artificers.

I have his head. No real opinion on any of the above solutions. I just thought I'd iterate that I HAVE HIS HEAD.

Tom, if you're willing to run this Friday (and from your email, I know that you are), Bob will not be able to game due to his work schedule, so we can give him some more time to think on it.

Out of curiosity, do we have any other confirmed "won't be comings"? It would help me plan combats if I knew how many PCs to expect.

None confirmed, but James is probable.

I'm in, and I spoke with James today. He said he should be there.
