    It's a trap! Draconic-speakers needed; Dec 17th - 8PM - FULL

Post by cstevenross on 2010-11-17, 14:33

I wish to schedule an expedition, using the infamous and deadly Swift Ravager, into the desert area surrounding Mekhet's reported hiding location on a quest for vengeance.

    First, a little background.

A few days ago, The Swift Ravager went out into the desert wastes on a mission to capture the traitor, Mekhet. Along the way, he and his travelling companions were attacked by hostile lizardfolk, silt striders and the like. The battle was fierce, and many of the scaly skinned fiends fell. In particular, the lizardfolk shaman used accursed incantions of the most vile sort to dominate the mind of Swift Ravager during the fighting. This traumatic experience has left the scrappy, young barbarian hurting on the inside forevermore. In the end, the plucky little cannibal's party was doomed. All but one lay dying in the hot sands, while the lizardfolk retreated to tend to their wounds.

That shaman's #1 mistake was letting Swift Ravager live. He is now on a path of either vengeance or death. Here is what he proposes:

A group of adventureous ruffians heads out into the desert, towards the site of that fateful battle. Swift Ravager is tied up with his hands behind his back and his blades carefully hidden beneath his clothes. A key member of the expedition, who is fluent in Draconic, leads the pack and speaks with the Lizardfolk. through guile and manipulation, they are able to position Swift Ravager near the dreaded shaman, at which point the barbarian breaks free of his false bonds and tears the still beating heart out of those who woudl dare humiliate and violate him so.

    Vengeance.

    Honor.

    Glory.

    IT CAN BE YOURS!!!

Unfortunatly with the holiday season fast approaching, my The Waste options in the near future are limited to specifically either Friday December 10th or Friday December 17th, 5pm or later. Draconic-speaker required.

Rowdin Kerr would also like to propose a plan for dealing with this Shaman. In my tribe, we often settle things through trade and appeasement. As we have wronged the lizardfolk, they deserve appeasement.

As such, we need someone fluent in Draconic to lead the expedition. Swift Ravager will be tied up and handed over as previously mentioned, at which point we all walk away.

Perhaps with the blood of the little one shed on the sands, we can move forward in a more civil manner. All life carries value and Swift's greatest value may lie in his death.

Hey, hey. I seem to remember consensus on the plan to sucker punch the Ssurrans, until everyone started dying.

I didn't think it was so hot of an idea, but I was sort of tied up in the enemy camp at the time. Not much I could do to stop the insane little one. ;p

Sounds like an opportunity for Slag to get out for some fresh air.

ZerotheFool should be in on this and he has a character that speaks Draconic.

Yes! Thank you for backing me up!

I also would like to think we would have done a lot better if people hadn't been so timid and afraid to use their powerful attacks/spells on round #1. This isn't Captain Sunshine's Happy Go Lucky Fun Time. This is Dark Sun, the most brutal campaign setting ever! The desert has no room for second guessing! The eye that looks ahead towards the safe path is closed forever! Kill monsters! Take their stuff!

I could kill you all/run this, probably. The 10th might be a problem for me, though. I'll watch the thread with an eye toward what people settle on.

I could make Friday the 17th, but not the 10th. I'd bring a character other than the druid, he isn't the blood thirsty type. I might just have to make a short person.

Crap! Bohrdumb reminded me that I, too, typically have a Friday conflict - I'm scheduled to kick ass and take names in Seaniusmaximus' game. That said, if you guys want to do this on the 17th, I can come if we're not playing Sean's game, or Elvorix can run it without me - heavens!

Cool, it looks like we can get a game together for December 17th with myself, Gavin and Steven playing with Angela as Dungeon Master. It's a little light on numbers, but we really only need the two of us to pull this off effectively. Biota is all gravy.

I might be able to pull some strings and host, but would anyone else be able to help out in that regard?

I have to double check with the boss (wife), but I should be able to host if you don't mind driving to Columbia. My place is just off of 29. I have battle mats, minis, and a coffee pot. I should also mention that we have a cat and a dog in case anyone has allergies though there were several felines running around Daniel's place and nobody seemed to have a problem with it.

That'd definitely be awesome if you could swing that. I'll volunteer to give a lift to anyone in Baltimore if it helps. I've got a ton of Dungeon Tiles and minis, so we're covered on the doodads front.

Keep us posted on that, and I'll see what I can do on my end.

And my character demands to be referenced to as his name! He's still a person, damn it!

But yeah, awesome, looks like we got a decent expedition ahead: Me (Killer Extraordinaire), Biota (chittering insect), Gryphon (elf), Zero (fluent in draconic); and Angela as DM.

The brutality is going to be spectacular. Swift Ravager is going to smear the blood of his foes across his brow like war paint. You are all going to be able to witness something truly remarkable.

I'm really kinda bummed that you guys didn't even scratch the surface of my little set-up in the town. Much respect to Seaniusmaximus, but I'm inclined to skip a session of his game to run this, if Angela doesn't mind stepping aside to play Slag.

I know you like to DM too, though. This should, ultimately, be everyone's game - I hope to have enough interested players that I simply *can't* be involved with every session!

OK. Steve, bring your lizard men.

I am en-car-ed, so I'm happy to still play at Biota's, or we can certainly play at my place.

By my count, then, we've got...

    1. Swift Ravager - Striker (cstevenross)
    2. Bikikcha - Controller (biota)
    3. Slag - Defender (elvorix)
    4. Some Warlord Dude - Leader (ZeroTheFool)
    5. Trinma - Striker (Gryphon)

Sounds like a decent mix. I look forward to seeing your very excellent plan meet with disaster.

I'm happy to host as well, but it might be easier to play at your place since everyone already knows how to get there. If more folks live down near me (Columbia, MD) I really am happy to host as it is quite convenient for me.

But yeah, 2 is the max. I've been involved in every single game there's been and Jarrol is still just shy of level 3.

(Which means, of course, Elvorix will be intent on killing him - but two Euphoric Ardents! Woo!)

Oh, we're using Encounter Points, aren't we. Ironic that I'd forget.

Chernie just enjoys pain and hurting people. He's not really euphoric. Wink

I'm not actually sure if Zero's warlord is level 2 or not but I know his Psion is.

Wait, I'm gonna be trying to kill you? Isn't this your game? That means you get to try to kill me.

Oops! You're right. Let the Slag-slagging commence!

If my count is right, this game is closed:

    1. Adam/Chernogg - Ardent (Leader)
    2. Elvorix/Slag - Warden (Defender)
    3. ZeroTheFool - Warlord (Leader)
    4. Cstevenross/Swift - Barbarian (Striker)
    5. Biota - ???
    6. Gryphon/Trinma - Ranger (Striker)

I think ZeroTheFool should charge you all through the nose for his translation services.

(I didn't really design it this way, but I think this is a trend with my DMing - making stuff that's supposed to be hand-wavey critical. This game now has two expeditions significantly shaped by language skills, and my HS game was driven for a while on the need to spend an enemy nation's currency...)

Firstly, inappropriate attempt to do something that does not benefit my character.

Secondly, the joke's on you because I don't even have enough gold to make it back with supplies, let alone pay extra.

Thirdly, Ravager isn't hiring people to come with him. He is graciously offering them a chance to partake in the coming bloodshed and witness his vengeance. If you're not down with that arrangement, then you need not experience the glory.

How much gold do I need for desert survival for this trip?

I have a silver platter worth 60 gp that I want to sell. Can I just convert that to gold without DM intervention?

    Adam,

Sorry - I missed your question. Since only you can travel at Erdlu speed in this party, on foot it should take about two days out to the location, and then two days back. We're just taxing PCs for survival, rather than making you buy survival days.

Yes, you can sell your small silver platter without DM intervention. Objets d'Art, like that, will typically be described in terms of their sale price (so you can just convert it into 60 gold bits - consider the "silver platter" thing to be more or less just color). Mundane equipment can be sold to the Gladitorial Sundries for 20% of list price, and magical items can be sold to the Templarate for 10% of list price.

So unfortunately, since we got such little in the way of loot last night, the half of the party that didn't take a heart will all get 2 gold. Not even enough to survive a day, but oh well.

On the other hand, you didn't give 90 gold to the damned darters.

And we made new friends! Ones that might not try to immediately kill us even.
