    Maryland Gamer License Plates

Post by Bryant on 2009-12-17, 22:50

(I couldn't find a good place to put this, so I'm pretending it's an event...)

Maryland is really fricking liberal about putting out speciality license plates. Here are the requirements for getting a new speciality license plate created:

    1. Be a non-profit organization.
    2. Have 25 organization members lined up who will buy the plates.

OK, step 1 is the pain in the butt. But that is still a pretty easy set of requirements.

It'd probably be more trouble than it's worth.

That is why having an accountant who works for a non-profit and has filed the paperwork for another non-profit as a member is a good thing.

Oh yeah? That'd make it easier. Am I reading this right when it says it'd be around $500 all told for filing for a new non-profit?

Its been a couple of years since I set up my last non-profit, so I'll have to check (my Mom's Thrift shop was $300 I believe). We'd just need a Board of Directors and then we could file by-laws and such. We'd probably be better off as an Association as the filing requirements are not as stringent, so you may want to check to see if the license plates can be made for Associations as well as Nonprofit Corps.
