If you have questions, check the Rules and Principles of the Waste and What is Dark Sun? threads first. But if you can't find an answer, or you don't know where to ask your question, ask it here!

Quick question regarding thrown weapons: are you going to be really strict about ammunition limits and recovery? Or will dual wielding handaxes without having extras be enough?

Good question. I am consulting with my fellow sorcerer-kings.

BEHOLD, MORTAL. Your question has been answered by the sorcerer-kings, merciful may they always be, as part of the new point 9 of Character Creation.

For the minicon kick-off thing, are we supposed to bring characters or are you providing?

What does Darkspiral Aura, the Dark Pact At-Will power for Dark Warlocks, attack? You apparently have to roll an attack, because there are Hit directions, but it doesn't say what that attack roll is or what is the defenders save.

Good question! The Compendium entry *is* wonky, and I don't have the FR book. Looking at some discussions of it, comparing to other Pact Boons (none of which require attack rolls), and given that there's no discussion of what happens to the tokens on your aura on a miss, I'm pretty sure the power is an auto-hit. The line should read Effect: rather than Hit:

If other DMs have other opinions, they can weigh in, but that's my take on it.

I think I have the FR book at home. I'll try to remember to check it out when I'm not at work.

Are there any issues with running more than one character in The Waste? I was thinking about it for a bit and Trabat really isn't the guy I'd want working for the Templars.

Nope, no problem. The rules for multiple characters are in the post about Character Trees.

I've found a potential problem with the way we handle shared levels and the character tree: if we have two characters with experience, and one of them levels up, what happens to the remaining experience on the second character when you decide to share your level? If it isn't accounted for, than there's really no point in playing a different character until your first character gains a level. Here's what I mean:

White and Black both have 500 XP. Black gains 500xp to gain a level, and shares that level with White. What happens to the 500xp already on White? If it's unaccounted for, you might as well just stick with Black until they level, then play White until it levels, rather then switching them out at will, which is contrary to the whole point of having a character tree.

I think the entire process can be much more streamlined if we just allow another character in our tree to gain the same amount of xp that the character we played gains during a session.

Frankly, the character tree system is the way it is b/c that's the way it was in 2E, and I stole it. You're right about the effect. On the other hand, this way, you can slum with a low-level character (e.g., to play w/new folks) and still level your higher level guy. Let us discuss among the DMs, but I welcome player input on what system seems fairest.

Yeah, I noticed that, too. Seems to me it makes the most sense to have at least 3 characters: two to actively adventure with, and when either levels, you level up the 0 EXP char.

I guess the alternative would be to allow you to have 1000*x EXP to assign to any single character you want, equal to the amount it took the leveling character to go from the previous to the new level. Or half that amount to divide among any characters except the leveler, etc. But that introduces new issues in itself.

Actually, a better way might for the autolevel to just give you 1000*x EXP when another character levels up, equal to the amount it takes for auto'd character to go from (old level & 0 excess EXP) to (new level). I think that's 1000*level? That way there's never a situation where gaining EXP is worthless, and yet if you autolevel someone they're always more than 1000 EXP away from their next level.

Canonically, and I kid you not, Athasian bears are giant, armored beasts of legend. Other than that...a kirre, maybe? An Ankheg?

Hey, so is this still going on and if so, do you have any openings? I always loved DS and still have a ton of the books.

Hey, Logiwonk - unfortunately, The Waste is on a bit of a hiatus right now. I'm about to make a long-overdue post on it.
