    Sorcerer: The Mask of Anarchy

General Butt-Naked. Commander Dust to Dust. General Satan. Black Diamond. To the outside world, the names of Liberia's warlords allowed a smirk at these savages' superstitions to cover discomfort at the tales of cannibalism, atrocity, and black magic coming out of the war and occasionally gracing the pages of respectable Western newspapers.

But Liberians themselves knew that the stories were deadly serious. The Americo-Liberians thought of Liberia as a new place, but even the wise among them realized that it was in fact very, very ancient, and full of spirits who remembered the time before upstart humans came. The war is about money and power, yes - but true power comes from forces beyond the barrel of a gun.

You are one of the few who understand this. What do you seek amid the violence - Power? A better life for your people? Mere safety? Escape? What do you command - the arcane secrets of the
Sande? Ancestral spirits? An enslaved magical dwarf from deep in ancient forests? Secrets of black magic brought from Nigeria with ECOMOG? What will you do to get what you want?

Sorcerer is a game of finding out how far you will go to get what you want. Each player commands a demon - a powerful arcane being that is deeply wrong, and grants abilities beyond mortal ken in exchange for feeding its foul Needs. The game revolves around the struggle to use the power responsibly, to master it rather than becoming mastered by it.

This particular game is set during the 1990s Liberian civil war. It doesn't presume any deep knowledge, and we won't be following the war's historical progress in great detail. But it will help to have or get some general knowledge on the conflict, and it might be interesting to check out some of the writing on the deep religious roots of the war - though I'm happy to just chat about that (if you do want a primer, check out Stephen Ellis, The Mask of Anarchy).

Logistically, if this happens it will be opposite my Burning Empires game, 1/2 weeks, starting in Jauary. Let me know if you're interested.

Sounds interesting to me, I have to say. I certainly don't wanna take a seat in both games (i.e. Burning Empires and this one), but I'll gladly fill the last one here, if it remains open.

That is, I'm not ditching the other game, only offering to take an active spot here, too -- if I'm needed.
